Designs...

Our designs represent a more generalised contemporary cultural art, blending abstract elements with expressive, artistic Māori clothing. Some pieces incorporate elements from our extended Polynesian whānau.

The beauty of art lies in its freedom from rules—anyone can be an artist. It's all about how it conveys connection and emotion.

I see art's true value in the unity it creates within our community, Māori art, in any positive aspect, can be worn with recognition and pride, symbolising our cultural heritage.

Ngā mihi, Juanita Gilbert,

He Maori Ahau.

Wahine Aki Hoodies...

I'm inspired by our wāhine, who have their kauae moko artistically etched upon their chins, a symbol of their identity and connection.

That’s brave, total respect.

It's a powerful and passive way of declaring who you are and your connection to your Wairoa, whānau, and Aotearoa.

KAUPAPA

This concept springs from my experiences as a diver, where I've dedicated myself to inspiring and guiding other Wāhine toward self-reliance.

Our philosophy centres around the "Wāhine Aki" hoodie collection, transforming māori clothing. It's a symbol of empowerment and a rallying cry for women to challenge themselves.

In the context, "Wāhine Aki" means woman, challenge yourself. This collection aims to inspire women to step beyond comfort zones, overcome obstacles, and embrace personal growth and self-discovery.

Whether challenging gender norms, ascending the corporate ladder, refining skills, acquiring knowledge, excelling in trades, or making a substantial impact—this is me,  Wāhine Aki.

Arohanui,

Juanita Mariee
